Lönnrotinkatu 33, 00180 Helsinki Tue-Fri 14-19, Sat-Sun 12-17

Opening reception Friday 8th of November, 6-8pm

The exhibition will bring together works by twenty two members of the Grey Garden studio collective, a group of artists with diverse practices working in Merihaka. One of our main aims is to be inclusive, celebrate community and bring people out of their individual studios and into dialogue with each other and the public. The title Interstices (Connection / Care / Traces) is an umbrella term to express ways in which our different interests and ways of working overlap. An interstice is a small opening, gap or break between objects set closely together, such as between atoms in a crystal.

Fissures, gaps, sequences, networks, patterns Interconnectedness and apartness
Moments of clarity
Instances of care and nurture in places and spaces Interstices of physical and digital spaces and communication Nooks and cubbies for visitors to nestle in

This theme is a framework and departure point for us to come together to explore our tangible and intangible influences that emerge between studio neighbours.
We spark ideas, leave traces and residues on each other knowingly and unknowingly. Our connection occurs through planned and unplanned studio visits, traces happen through lunchtime conversations and chats over coffee which all trickle into the collective creative psyche. The exhibition will feature work from different disciplines including virtual realities, moving image, drawing, installation, painting, photography, textiles and sculpture.

Event: Friday 15th November at 7pm Grey Gardens Live - Marloes van Son and guests.

Grey Gardens Studios is a studio collective founded in 2019 in Itä-Pasila, which is currently located in Helsinki's Merihaka. The collective includes 24 artists from different age groups and different nationalities. Grey Gardens, which describes the urban architecture of Itä-Pasila and Merihaa as a working environment, is also a reference to the 1975 documentary film of the same name. The goal of the studio collective is to maintain creative work, share resources and offer support in the form of community. Grey Garden Studios has organized three exhibitions, Night of the Arts (2019) in Itä-Pasila, Organic (2023) in Galleria Longa in Kalasatama and Out of Office (2023) in Asbestos Art Space in Kruununhaka, Helsinki.
