Nights, clouds and sparrows
Halonen & Voima
Yö Galleria 3.1-16.1.2025
Opening 2.1.2025 at 18.00
We find snakes' empty skin, and when we hold it in front of the sun we see the scales break up the sun rays into colors. The sight does not leave us: rainbows inside snakes.
In the Nights, clouds and sparrows -photography exhibition we make room for unknown realities. We’ve walked on sidealleys, through outbacks and morasses, we’ve been guests in different places - probably not the wanted guests. Although we try to act considerate and harmless, we are still big mammals with plastic shoes, clothes and gear.
It feels important to bring out lives and those who are not usually noticed and whose essence and realities are unknown. Human norms, boundaries and capital letters are trivial to the frozen wild angelica or to swarming midges. We share a moment with them and when it starts to get cold, we dance a constellation to warm up and leave.
The exhibition is composed of photographs from 2023-2024 made mainly in Finland, from Kilpisjärvi to the south coast. The exhibition is a continuation to Anttoni Halonen’s and Soile Voima’s photo installation Deer, Dirt, Monkey and Bones, which was exhibited at Vaasa Art Hall in September-October 2024.
Artist duo Halonen & Voima are currently working within the boundaries of photography and performance art dealing with ecological questions.
